Sustainable Morristown works at the intersection of a three-prong commitment to:
People – A nutured, empowered and engaged citizenry
Planet – A healthy and safe natural environment
Prosperity – A strong and vibrant local economy
The concept of sustainability is based on the principle that no single element – people, planet or prosperity – can thrive on its own indefinitely. In order to achieve long-term success, or true sustainability, we must work to engage and nourish our people, protect our planet and provide viable livelihoods for citizens through a strong local economy.
Perhaps the most widely accepted definition of sustainability was defined by the 1987 United Nations Brundtland Commission as “Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
We see Sustainable Morristown as a community-wide effort to create a shared vision for a thriving Morristown – one that meets our individual and collective needs and desires for today – while also considering and providing for a bright, healthy and prosperous future for generations to come.
